Meet our Coaches

  • Head Coach Samson

Samson Miller grew up in Fairfax, Virginia where he belonged to Greenbriar Pool Club all throughout his childhood. He’s always loved the water and joined the Greenbriar Dolphins Swim Team in the Summer of 2005 at the age of 7. From age 7-12 he swam year-round for York Swim Club, until he ultimately realized that Diving was his true passion. Samson joined the Greenbriar Dolphins Dive Team at the age of 11, and immediately knew he wanted to pursue the sport full time. He dove for both Greenbriar and Dominion Dive Club from 2009-2016, competing at the USA Diving Junior National championships on a yearly basis. Samson is a 4-Time NISCA All-American High School diver and attended Fairfax High-School where he holds both the 6-Dive and 11-Dive School Records. He placed 3rd in his Virginia Class 6 State High School Diving Competition every year between 2013-2015. Samson achieved his ultimate Diving goal in 2016 when he accepted a scholarship to Dive for The University of Virginia. He graduated in 2020 with a B.A. in Music.

Samson has coached diving for 13 years. He spent 10 years coaching in Fairfax, VA at Greenbriar Pool Club before taking on the head coach position at Fork Union Military Academy in September 2020. Samson quickly noticed how underdeveloped the sport was in the greater Charlottesville/Central VA area. He began offering diving lessons throughout the community in 2021, which quickly grew in popularity. Eventually in September 2023, Wahoo Dive Club was formed. Samson currently coaches the high school dive teams at Albemarle HS, Monticello HS, Western Albemarle HS, St. Anne’s Belfield-School and Fork Union Military Academy. He was named the VISAA diving coach of the year in 2023 and recently coached 3 separate divers to state championship titles in 2024.

  • Coach Shawn

Shawn Lipinski is delighted Wahoo Dive Club brought springboard diving to Central Virginia. She is thrilled to be a part of the Club and share her love of the sport with this talented group of athletes and any newcomers wanting to try something fun!

Shawn started diving at the age of 9. She was a three time High School All American and a five time Junior Olympic National Finalist on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. She was the 3-meter champion at the 1995 Junior Olympics 14-15 age group and represented the US at the Pan American Games in Mexico City. Shawn represented Stanford University on all three events, including the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards and the 10-meter platform. As a Freshman, she finished 10th on platform and 11th on both the springboard events at the Pac-10 Championships. She scored big points for the Cardinal in her sophomore and junior years as she was a finalist on both the one and three meter boards. While at Stanford, the Women's Swimming and Diving Team won a NCAA National Championship.

Shawn is a regular volunteer for the local Area 3 Special Olympics and believes all of us have the potential to be a champion in anything we set our minds to. Her goal with every athlete she works with is to instill confidence, courage and joy while having a blast doing it.
